Energy Profiles Limited (EPL) advises key clients on energy purchasing. We are not affiliated with any energy suppliers and we operate purely on a consulting basis, working to assist our clients in making prudent hedging decisions.
EPL has advised clients on electricity contracts representing more than $200M this decade in Ontario and Alberta.
However, we do not simply help you ‘get into a power contract’. It is worth noting that in the same period, EPL has also counseled clients NOT to enter into power contracts for portfolios representing more than $250M in annual costs.
The decision to hedge can often be broken down in terms of risk vs. regret. The motivation to enter into a contract is to avoid the risk of unforeseen cost increases associated with being on the spot market. However, this opens the possibility of paying a premium over the term of the contract(regret). Our approach is to assist in the decision-making process by preparing detailed projections of net costs using hourly consumption data under different spot market price scenarios. Effectively we help to define the bounds of risk and regret.
In addition to helping guide the decision-making process, EPL would commence discussions with potential suppliers to establish prices and terms, and to negotiate custom offerings to suit your needs. (With an established base of sizable 'portfolio' clients, Energy Profiles Limited has the credibility to command the attention of major electricity suppliers.) Where appropriate, EPL would conduct formal or informal Request for Pricing processes, provide support to the contract legal review process and coordinate communications with suppliers.
Following your selection of a supplier, we oversee contract execution and provide 'down to the penny' bill verification and allocation services as part of ongoing energy accounting services.
